MELBOURNE Heart coach John van't Schip felt his team's recent schedule had finally got up with his players as they fell to a late 2-1 home defeat by A-League leaders Brisbane Roar.
Gerald Sibon's early goal wasn't enough, despite a strong first half from the home side, with the visitors bagging decisive goals after the break.
Van 't Schip said Heart's taxing recent schedule ultimately cost the side, revealing fatigue played a role in the side's first home defeat since round one.
"I think we were the better side, but that was not enough. Going into the second half with 1-0 lead, we went forward and we couldn't push Brisbane up the pitch," he said.
"We couldn't come into our game anymore and they had the better chances. Matt Thompson and Alex Terra had a few chances but (Roar) were closer.
"We are getting where we want, but the schedule over the last two weeks was very difficult and I think it had something to do with today's result."
