CARLOS Hernandez is confident he can hit the goal trail again for Melbourne Victory as he battles the bruises and close attention of A-League opponents.
Last season's A-League player of the year has struggled to make the same impact this time out but he is trying to remain upbeat.
He admits he is something of a marked man this year but he is prepared to take the knocks and keep fighting.
"Too much kicking. There is more attention and it is difficult for me to be playing the same as last season. No problem," he told the Herald Sun.
"Sometimes my shots are on target, but no goals. If I'm not playing good, this is a problem. But I play good. I'm on target. It's OK. No problem. I'm happy. Players like to score goals, but I'm an attacking midfielder, not a striker."
What Hernandez would love more than anything is to see Archie Thompson back in the Victory side as he believes that will open up more space for him.
Hernandez and his colleagues face Sydney FC this weekend as they bid to banish the memory of last week's defeat in the Melbourne derby.
