Unconfirmed reports tonight say Central Coast Mariners and Celtic have agreed a transfer fee of around $700,000 with only personal terms to be agreed upon.
Rogic, 20 - – generally regarded as the best young Australian to come through the A-League in the last year – joined the Scottish powerhouse for a training camp in Marbella over the last few days where he's clearly impressed.
Speaking with FourFourTwo Australia magazine for a feature out next month, Heskey said Rogic could become a fan favourite at Celtic Park but will need to adapt his game once he's playing in the UK.
“I’m sure Rogic with his ability, he’s a very good player and he’s got a massive club to go to as well" the former England international striker and Liverpool star told au.fourfourtwo.com.
"And I’m sure the fans will take to him over there really well because of the way he plays."
Rogic, a newly capped Socceroo, has been touted as an Aussie wonder-kid in the UK press. After winning the Nike Chance tournament in 2010 the Canberra born starlet trained with the Nike Academy in the UK and impressed Reading.
The Royals had Rogic train with them for six weeks but visa issues scuppered any potential deal and he returned to Australia to light up the A-League with Central Coast.
Reading were said to be interested in recent weeks and QPR are also believed to have made inquiries but it appears the Bhoys have won out on the prized signature of the dual Socceroo and Futaslroo.
Heskey, however, offered a cautionary note.
“It’s too early to say but I’m sure he has the basis [to succeed]," he said.
"It’s now just about getting experience playing with the players he’s going to have around him and the league he’s going to play in and playing against players who aren’t going to give him as much time on the ball.
"Granted out here [in the A-League] you can’t run around like you do in England.
“It’s different conditions but he’s got a really good ability and he’ll have got good coaches at Celtic who can help him along.”
With a trio of trialists from the Mariners going overseas for trials - striker Bernie Ibini and Mat Ryan are also set for stints in Europe – Heskey, 35, noted the challenges of trials in mid-season.
“It’s difficult going mid-season because you’re kind of expected to light it up," he said.
"If you’re coming in pre-season, you’re kind of got time to build it up because in pre-season, you’ll play six to seven games.
“Whereas now, you want to hit the ground running. It’s difficult if they haven’t been out of their own country before [playing in an overseas league]
“You’ve got all these things to look at. I know players that have left their countries at a young age and you think, ‘Wow, how do they do that?’
“But they’ve managed. Some have prospered and some have not done so well and have gone home."
Heskey, meanwhile, trained strongly on Tuesday and was part of a double session on the park and in conditioning in the gym ahead of the weekend’s F3 derby with Central Coast.
Heskey and other Jets players also hosted a junior clinic at Hunter Stadium for around 400 children.
Meanwhile speculation on Twitter today surrounded out of favour Jets defender Tiago Calvano, who is rumoured to be joining Sydney FC as a replacement for injured Dutchman Pascal Bosschaart.
The Brazilian trained separately from the main group on Tuesday and is understood to be keen on staying in the A-League.
It’s also understood the Sky Blues have inquired about Central Coast’s veteran Dutch defender Patrick Zwaanswijk.
