Honda has attracted interest from several clubs in Europe but VVV's 10 million euro asking price is proving a stumbling block.

VVV, who won the Jupiler League last season, see the 23-year-old as a key player as they prepare for life among the elite of Dutch football.

"I want to play at a higher level but VVV is wanting too much money for me," Honda told De Telegraaf.

"I want to speak to the club about it.

"I will also discuss my future with my agent. If I have to play here in the new season, it won't be easy for me.

"But then I want to prove myself worthy in the Eredivisie, by scoring at least 10 goals."

Honda scored 16 goals in 36 appearances in the second tier last season.
