“There were just a few tactical tweaks that we need to work on and that we addressed in the video session after the game. I think when we do come up against them in the season, we’ll put those things into effect and hopefully we’ll see a much better result."

Going into the new season, Kamau says that the whole squad wants to right the wrongs of last year. He says that it was tough because with a new coach and staff team, everyone was adapting – but this season there are no excuses.

“Last season we know that it wasn’t good enough," he said. "This year we want to be a lot better so the results in the pre-season reflect where we are mentally and physically, and I think we’re in a good way going into the new season.”

Former Bundesliga Golden Boot winner Alexander Meier has arrived at the Wanderers to boost the campaign and help meet the high expectations of the Wanderers fans.

“To have a striker of his quality to help us what we want to achieve is perfect and hopefully the replicate the Golden Boot he got in the Bundesliga in the A-League,” said the 24 year old Kenyan-born Olyroo.

Wanderers open the new season against Central Coast Mariners with their first A-League fixture at their impressive new Bankwest Stadium home.

And Kamau says he’s excited to see what the new stadium looks like when it’s filled with the Red and Black Bloc – and expecting of a morale-boosting win to kick off the season.

He added: “I’m confident.

"We played them in pre-season and I felt confident in that game. I’m feeling fit and feeling excited for the season to start and it would be good to start off with a win at Bankwest."

As for how he’ll react if he’s got Daniel De Silva or Matt Simon charging at him in that match in his new wing-back position? Kamau has no doubts: “I back myself against anyone.”
