Round 2 of the Hyundai Queensland State League sees the Brisbane Strikers sitting in the top spot on the ladder after their second win of the campaign, but only by a marginal goal difference.
Sunshine Coast and Olympic FC also won their second victory on the trot, keeping pace with the league leaders.
In other games around the state, Redlands City Devils recorded their first win of the season at home to the Whitsunday Miners on Saturday night. Redlands' mid-week signing Daniel Byrne opened the scoring in the 15th minute, before Russell Woodruffe coolly converted a second half penalty. Andy Cygan's 63th minute goal was not enough to salvage anything for the Miners in their first 2009 game, and Devils took the three valuable points.
Capricorn Cougars hosted high-flying Brisbane Strikers, who managed their second hat-trick in as many weeks. Cougars captain Roy Bob scored the only goal for his team in the 11th minute and it took the Strikers half an hour to hit back through Luke Morley. Three goals in twenty minutes from Gareth Musson secured the win for Stuart McLaren's side.
Logan United's first 2009 home game became their first victory of the campaign when FNQ Bulls made the trip down to Logan. Raj Oshen scored the winning goal in spectacular fashion, beating the Bulls keeper Daniel Wilesmith with a free kick at the tightest of angles. His goal was enough to secure the win in sweltering conditions.
Sunshine Coast FC enjoyed their second win in a row, beating NQ Razorbacks 3-1 at Stockland Park on Sunday. Shaun Blackman, Michael Scarff and Tyson Holmes were each on the scoresheet for the home side, before Razorbacks' Hayden Beale was given his marching orders for a tackle on Coast newcomer Ritchie Davidson. Despite being a player down, the Razorbacks retaliated and scored a late goal through Lee Mayberry.
Olympic FC's made the short trip across Brisbane to play the Queensland Academy of Sport. Boosted by their midweek signing of former Queensland Roar player Hyuk-Su Seo, Olympic ran out 2-0 winners on the day. Winger Andrew Oar and skipper Chris Hagell scored either side of half-time to collect the three points.
