The striker didn't wait long to make his mark, heading home from a free kick after just 23 minutes. The home side had most of the possession in the game, and doubled their lead in the 70th minute, with a tap in from Alex Panic. Cameron Draper got his side's third three minutes before the final whistle, while the Whitsunday Miners scored a consolation goal in the dying stages of the game. After Olympic keeper Shannon Lancini fumbled a Michael Van Moolenbroek free kick, Andy Cygan pounced in the six yard box to score his second goal in as many games.

Redlands City Devils travelled to Bundaberg for their third round fixture against the Spirit. Both sides welcomed back their respective skippers, Ryan Bridge and Brett Kitching, who were both making their 2009 Hyundai QSL debuts after being sidelined with injury for the past few weeks. Russell Woodruffe opened the scoring in the third minute, with a header from a Wayne Knipe cross. Cameron Hunt scored his first goal of the campaign just five minutes later, before Danny Byrne scored before the break to make the score 3-0. Russell Woodruffe's second of the game in the 80th minute cemented the win for the away side.

Queensland Academy of Sport recorded their first win of the season, comprehensively beating Capricorn Cougars 3-0 in Rockhampton. Striker Jordan Farina scored just two minutes into the encounter, and teammate Koh Satake headed home from point blank range just after the half-time break. Man-of-the-match Satake scored his second just ten minutes later, superbly slotting home a free kick from 20 metres. In a dismal day for the Cougars', goalkeeper Gerard Kelly was sent his marching orders and captain Roy Bob had to be substituted due to injury.

Brisbane Strikers climbed to first spot on the Hyundai QSL table with a comfortable 3-0 over Logan United. Strikers scored two goals in three minutes through Warren Moon and Luke Morley early in the first half, before Gareth Musson's fifth goal of the 2009 season sealed it for Stuart McLaren's side in the 58th minute.  Despite a lively opening to the game, Logan rarely looked like challenging the Strikers.

FNQ Bulls made their first victory in the Hyundai QSL a timely one, beating 2008 Premiers Sunshine Coast FC 3-2 in front of a massive home crowd. Unsurprisingly, Shaun Blackman found the back of the net for Sunshine Coast FC, but the star of the show was youngster Steven Cater who, after scoring the Bulls' first ever goal in the league in Round 1, netted twice on Saturday night to seal a historic win. Josiah Rusch was the Bulls other goal scorer while Sunshine Coast FC's Dan Kirkup scored a consolation deep into injury time with the last play of the game.

Cater was delighted with his team's important victory.

"(Sunshine Coast) are the defending champions so to get our first win against them was brilliant," he said.

"Our plan at training this week was to stick it to them early and get in their face and we did that. The boys showed a lot of heart out there and it was good we fought it out for the whole 90 minutes."
