Brisbane Strikers were confirmed as Hyundai QSL champions for 2009 on Sunday, after rivals Olympic FC suffered a 3-1 loss to Sunshine Coast FC.
Strikers' win over NQ Razorbacks earlier in the round was enough to see themselves leapfrog Olympic and take first spot.
A point ahead, and with a game in hand, Olympic are now unable to catch them.
Brisbane Strikers 2 - 0 NQ Razorbacks
A goal either side of half-time gave Brisbane Strikers the important win they needed to overtake Olympic FC on the Hyundai QSL ladder.
NQ Razorbacks could have scored twice within the opening five minutes, but it was Steve Unsworth who found the back of the net first when he coolly slotted home after a pass from Luke Morley.
Unsworth then turned provider, producing the perfect cross for Morley hit first time past Razorbacks goalkeeper Kieran Gonzalez on the hour mark.
The result means that Razorbacks must hope that Queensland Academy of Sport defeats Redlands City Devils on Friday night, as a draw or win for the Cleveland side would see them progress to the finals.
Razorbacks would also have to beat Capricorn Cougars the following day at home.
Capricorn Cougars 6 - 1 Bundaberg Spirit
Bundaberg Spirit's hopes of finding a win in the 2009 season look to be fading after a 6-1 defeat at the hands of regional rivals Capricorn Cougars.
Cougars opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through Gerard Brown, and extended their lead with goals from Johnathon Sauer and Jesse Thompson to secure a 3-0 lead at half-time.
Another three goals in the second half from Thompson, Brendan James and Joseph Burke gave the Cougars their biggest winning margin this season, despite the Spirit pulling a goal back through Jason Loft with 15 minutes to go.
Bundaberg's last chance at a win this season will come at home next week when they take on Logan United.
Queensland Academy of Sport 0 - 4 FNQ Bulls
FNQ Bulls claimed their third victory in as many games when they beat Queensland Academy of Sport 4-0 at Lions Stadium, Richlands.
Joe Rusch opened the scoring half an hour into the game, with a header from a Glenn Hurney corner.
QAS dominated for large parts of the game but were unable to convert their possession into chances and were punished when the Bulls scored three goals in four minutes towards the end of the second half.
Steven Cater netted a brace, bringing his tally this season to an impressive 11 goals, while Dennis Allen scored his second goal of the season.
Sunshine Coast FC 3 - 1 Olympic FC
Olympic FC came into this clash needing a win if they wanted any chance of claiming the title of Hyundai QSL 2009 champions, while Sunshine Coast FC were aiming to go 12 games unbeaten.
Sunshine Coast dominated the first half in the aggressive encounter, and scored twice in the first half through two superb goals by Jai Cross, recently returning from injury.
Olympic were restricted to long range shots, and if it wasn't for some goalkeeping heroics from Matt Ham, Sunshine Coast could have had a larger goal margin going into the break.
Olympic coach Bobby Hamilton made some tactical changes at half-time, making substitutions and pushing Hyuk-Su Seo into his more comfortable midfield role.
The changes seemed to work and Shane Coffey scored for Olympic just three minutes into the second half, after good build-up play from Alex Panic and skipper Chris Hagell.
However, Sunshine Coast were firm in defense and Olympic were unable to score again.
The Coast scored their third through a well-taken penalty from Chris Davies after Tyson Holmes was fouled in the box.
Logan United 1 - 1 Whitsunday Miners
Logan United will need a minor miracle if they want to reach the finals series in 2009, after drawing 1-1 with Whitsunday Miners at home.
Reggie Davani looked to put the home side on their way in the 16th minute when he hit the back of the net with an impressive free kick, but a late leveler from Michael van Moolenrboek ensured that the Miners would travel back to Mackay with a share of the points.
