After scratching a seven-round scoring itch with a classy header to help the Sky Blues to a 4-1 thrashing of Perth Glory, Sydney FC winger Filip Holosko is confident he can do the same against Adelaide United.
The Slovakia international began the season on fire with three goals but since that explosive start the 31-year-old struggled to find the back of the net and was even benched for a game.
But last weekend the powerful wingman put aside his poor run of form and ahead of the Boxing day clash away to the Reds, Holosko’s is hungry for more goals.
“I am happy I scored against Perth,” he said.
"But now I want to score again and I hope my confidence is back and I believe I will score again in Adelaide."
Holosko admitted that the scoring drought did affect his self-belief.
“If I feel the pressure I don’t know but maybe the confidence was a little bit down especially after you score three goals after two rounds and then in seven games you do not score," he said.
“The first two rounds I scored three goals and everybody expected me to score in every game but I didn’t score after seven games it was a difficult time for me.
"It was an important goal to go to 2-1. It was also not so easy scoring with a head like this and it was a nice goal.”
The former European Champions League winger is one of a dozen Sydney FC players that are out of contract at the end of the season, but Holosko said he is putting thoughts of his playing future at the back of his mind.
“I don’t think like this,” he said “That this is maybe my last season. But I want to help Sydney FC.
"I’m a marquee player I want to score more goals and I want to help the team. I believe we have the best team in Australia and the best coach and the best staff around us.
"They give us everything, we try our best on the pitch and I believe this season we will be successful."
With the A-League promoting the festive period as the Summer of football, Holosko is confident Graham Arnold’s men can maintain their winning run over Xmas and New Year’s.
“We have two tough games,” he said. “We play on Boxing day in Adelaide, they are last but they still have a good team and they were last year’s Champions.
“It will be a difficult game but I believe we will go there and get the three pints and after that we have four days for recover and we are home against Brisbane on the 30 December.”
“We are motivated for every game and we went to win every game.”
