Socceroo Chris Ikonomidis is set to join German 2.Bundesliga outfit St Pauli on loan for the 2016-17 season from Italian powerhouse Lazio, according to reports.
The 21-year-old attacker spent the second half of last term on loan with Serie B club Salernitana where he made 14 appearances and scored one goal.
FourFourTwo understands as part of the loan, St Pauli have the option to buy Ikonomidis permanently with a fee of €3 million (AU$4.4m) floated.
It is believed Italian third tier outfit Reggina has also enquired about the winger's availability.
Hamburg-based St Pauli finished fourth in the 2.Bundesliga last term but have started the new campaign with two losses to sit bottom of the table.
Opportunities are likely to be limited for Ikonomidis this season at Lazio, where he’s yet to make a first-team appearance.
Lazio has added striker Ciro Immobile and midfielder Moritz Leitner in the off-season.
Ikonomidis, who has six Socceroos caps, is part of the Australian squad due to link up in Perth next week for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Iraq.
