AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi is still waiting for a phone call from Italy coach Roberto Donadoni to explain why he was left out of the squad for Euro 2008.
The 35-year-old striker did not figure on the list of 24 players read out by Donadoni on Monday, a decision which means Inzaghi's international career is as good as over.
Yet Inzaghi did not hear a word from Donadoni before he announced his squad, and admits to being "disappointed" to have been omitted.
"I am disappointed, particularly from a human point of view," he said on AC Milan's website.
"I started these last two years (under Donadoni) with a positive relationship, scoring the first official goal of his stewardship in Napoli against Lithuania.
"And then came the silence, despite my return for Milan, scoring 18 goals over the winter and in April and May.
"Obviously it has taken just my injury during the season for me to not even merit a phone call; to cancel what I thought was a mature, adult relationship.
"I am sorry that I got it wrong and pass on my sincere wishes to the Azzurri for the coming European Championships."
Donadoni selected Marco Borriello, Luca Toni, Alessandro Del Piero, Fabio Quagliarella, Antonio Di Natale and Antonio Cassano as his strikers on Monday.
The inclusion of controversial striker Cassano caused the biggest stir at the squad announcement in Rome.
The 25-year-old impressed for Sampdoria while on loan from Real Madrid this season, with Donadoni seeing past an ugly incident which saw the frontman throw his shirt at a referee and earn a lengthy ban.
"This call-up is a huge satisfaction," said Cassano.
"When I arrived at Samp last August, I underlined that a return to the national team for Euro 2008 was one of my objectives and to have managed it at the end of such a beautiful, rewarding season makes me even more delighted and proud."
One of Donadoni's strikers is expected to make way when the final 23-man squad is confirmed by May 28.
