Iraq have parted company with coach Akram Ahmed Salman just three months before they face Australia in the Asian Cup.
Salman has been "released from his responsibilities", according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Football Association.
The FA are believed to have accepted recommendation from a committee which looked into the national team's Gulf Cup campaign, which saw Iraq fail to advance past the group stage.
Iraq have been drawn in Group A of the Asian Cup, which begins on July 7, alongside co-hosts Thailand, Australia and Oman.
Iraqi FA International affairs representative Sudad Al Mutairi said Salman was fired because of his inability to communicate with players.
Al Mutairi claimed the main reason behind Salman's sacking was the lack of understanding between the coach and his players, as well as the performance during the Gulf Cup in January, where Iraq were knocked out at the group stage.
"The fact-finding committee which was formed by the Iraq FA after the Gulf Cup concluded that there was a real miscommunication between Salman and Iraq national team players in the Gulf Cup," said Al Mutairi.
"As the Asian Cup finals are approaching, Salman's replacement will be a local coach and Iraq national team coach in the Asian Cup finals could be either Yahya Alwan or Adnan Hamad," he added.
With the Asian Cup looming large, Iraq will be keen to find a replacement as soon as possible.
