Italy, whose 2-1 victory at Hampden Park ended Scotland's dreams of qualifying for their first major tournament in a decade, currently sit in pole position - a point above Les Bleus.

And a victory at home to minnows the Faroe Islands - who are rock bottom of the pool without a point to their name - would secure them top spot.

But the Faroes only lost to the Azzurri by a narrow margin in Torshavn as they fell to a credible 2-1 defeat in June.

And they will be hoping to better that as they bid not to end the qualifiers without a point.

Midfielders Suni Olsen and Frodi Benjaminsen return to the squad after missing their country's 5-0 defeat in Ukraine last month. Olsen was suspended while Benjaminsen was given leave for personal reasons.

Rogvi Jacobsen will be looking to break the Faroese goalscoring record and bag his 10th goal for his country, having fired past the world champions already in their first meeting.

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni insists his side will treat the game in Modena like any other despite having already qualified.

"The supporters deserve that respect," he said. "We will be fighting hard for a result, as always."

France have little to play for in Ukraine as Italy are almost assured of top spot but, having secured qualification without even kicking a ball courtesy of Italy's triumph in Scotland, Les Bleus will want to end their qualifying campaign on a high.

Raymond Domenech has already stated he was slightly disappointed that France qualified without playing and will want to make up for that on Wednesday, but Ukraine will be out for revenge after losing 2-0 in Paris in June.

Mathieu Flamini and Florent Malouda are definitely absent after pulling out the squad through injury while Domenech might decide against risking Nicolas Anelka who is just returning from injury.

Injury-stricken Ukraine suffered another blow as goalkeeper Olexander Shovkovskyi sustained a knee injury in their 2-0 defeat to Lithuania.

The keeper joins a list of absentees that include defenders Olexandr Kucher, Andriy Rusol, Andriy Nesmachniy and midfielder Maxym Kalynychenko.

Ukraine's loss in Kaunas means Lithuania could leapfrog the World Cup quarter-finalists into fourth place if they prevail in Georgia.

But striker Tomas Radzinevicius and midfielder Darius Miceika have added to Lithuania's injury woes. They join Deividas Semberas and Deividas Cesnauskis on the sidelines.

Saulius Mikoliunas, who scored in the 1-0 win over Georgia in Kaunas, Audrius Ksanavicius and Aurimas Kucys are all back in contention after serving their suspensions.

Georgia welcome back captain Kakha Kaladze after the AC Milan defender missed the 2-0 defeat to Italy and the 2-0 victory over Scotland through injury.
