The Chinese side head to South Korea level on points with Pohang with both teams having won one and lost one in the tournament so far.

"Obviously, we were drawn in a very difficult group and each game in the group is tough," said Ivankovic.

"It will be an extremely tough game for us on Wednesday because we are encountering the defending Asian champions. However, Shandong are coming here for victory."

Pohang coach Waldemar Lemos knows it is vital his side do not slip up at home if they are to maintain their bid to stage a successful defence of the title.

"For both teams this is a very important game in terms of qualifying for the second round but as the home team our chances of winning should be a little higher," the Brazilian said.

"There are no easy games in the Asian Champions League and the next two games promise to be extremely difficult ones. Of course, as we are at home, our objective is to win and take the three points."

Both Shandong and Pohang trail Adelaide United by three points with the Australians hosting Sanfrecce Hiroshima looking to strengthen their place at the top of the standings.
