Socceroo Mile Jedinak has had his captaincy at Crystal Palace stripped and handed to team-mate Scott Dann despite being described as 'legendary' by manager Alan Pardew.
UK Newspaper Croydon Advertiser reports that Pardew had handed the armband to Dann for their recent friendly with Fulham on Saturday, despite both players starting.
Despite starting only 16 games last season, Jedinak has been ever-present for the Eagles since 2012, leading them as captain to promotion and eventual consolidation in the premiership.
Alan Pardew confirmed the change via video on the club's website.
"I've decided to change the club captaincy," Pardew said.
"Mile has been legendary for this football club and a brilliant leader.
"But I thought it was time for a change and I think Scott will carry it well, and hopefully that proves to be the case."
