NEWCASTLE Jets youth team this evening drew their first game of the National Youth League competition against Adelaide United Youth Team 0-0 at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The home team had the lion’s share of possession but were unable to capitalise on their chances, thanks largely to a number of wonder-saves by Jets’ goalkeeper Jordan Griffiths.
No relation to Adam or Joel in the senior team, young Jordan saved a penalty along with a number of quality Reds’ chances in an outstanding performance.
The young Jets stepped up their game in the second half as combinations began to gel, and the team worked in unison.
However, despite former Young Socceroo captain Kaz Patafta playing the full 90 minutes for the visitors, Newcastle could not find the breakthrough and had to settle for a share of the spoils.
Newcastle Jets youth team coach Craig Deans said there were positive signs to come out of the game, despite Adelaide dominating for certain periods.
“We still have a lot to work on, but the guys showed glimpses of what they’re capable of and we definitely have some building blocks to begin the season with,” he said.
“Most of the team haven’t had much time to play together, but we definitely have some positives to work from.
“Overall, I’m fairly happy with getting something out of the game and hopefully we can build on this draw next round.”
