The Newcastle Jets youth squad boasts a healthy number of locals, including Jon Griffiths (Thornton Jnr), Jacob Pepper (Merewether Jnr), Scott Pettit (Swansea Jnr), Luke Remington (Westlakes Jnr ), and James Virgili (South Wallsend Jnr). 

Northern NSW is further represented with the inclusion of Samuel Gallaway (Coffs Harbour United) who has come to the Jets via the Australian Institute of Sport.

Sixteen-year-old Luke Remington, is a local junior on the path to success.  Born in Newcastle, Luke recently represented Australia's U16 team on a tour of England.  As well as representing Australia, Luke has regularly represented the Northern NSW Football Association having travelled to Japan on one such occasion.

The squad also sees the return of a number of last season's squad including Robert Kolak, Mario Simic, Jesse Pinto, and Fabian Iacovelli. 

Born-and-bred Novocastrian and current Qantas Next Young Socceroos starlet, James Virgili, heads the crop of returning youngsters to recently re-sign with the Hunter club.

The squad also welcomes Jack Duncan (Sutherland Sharks), Nathan Millgate (Apia Leichhardt), Kyle Ewart (Sydney United), David Talevski (Blacktown City), Gavin Forbes (Manly United) and Steven Veleski (Sydney United).

Newcastle Jets Youth team coach, Craig Deans said:  "We have the best local talent from Newcastle, as well as some outstanding young players from around the state, and that gives us a good mix for the season."

"The players we have selected all have the potential to progress up to Hyundai A-League level and our objective is to ensure these players are given the best opportunity to achieve that."

Saturday's match against the AIS will kick off at midday.
