FOOTBALL Federation Australia has cancelled tomorrow night's clash between Newcastle Jets and North Queensland Fury after the EnergyAustralia Stadium surface was deemed unplayable.
Following an official inspection of the EnergyAustralia Stadium playing surface by officials the decision was made to postpone due to significant damage caused to the playing surface following the Super X event on October 16.
A decision on Sunday’s Hyundai A-League match between Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Heart is expected to be made tomorrow.
“Following an alert from Newcastle Jets management today FFA dispatched senior staff to inspect the playing surface,” said Head of Hyundai A-League Lyall Gorman.
“The need for player safety and player welfare is paramount and a decision was made that the ground was not acceptable for competitive football.”
FFA, in cooperation with Newcastle Jets and FOX Sports, is currently examining alternatives for both matches.
