Griffiths and his brother Ryan were both part of the Beijing Guoan side that defeated the Jets 2-0 in midweek but the former Johnny Warren Medal-winner doesn't believe it was a terminal loss for Gary van Egmond's men.

Griffiths admitted it had been a very odd experience to play against brother Adam and a group of players he knows so well.

However, he is in China to do a job and makes no apologies for it. That said, he is still keen to see Newcastle bounce back from their defeat and believes it is possible.

He told the Herald: "I think they'll get better the more games they play. They should be solid. Newcastle are putting together a good team and they'll build from this and learn something from it.

"It'll be very interesting to see how they do in their next few games, and I think they might turn some heads."

Newcastle will look to bounce back next week when they open the home portion of their ACL campaign with a match against Ulsan Hyundai.
