NASSER Al Johar has resigned as coach of the Saudi Arabia national team the country's football association has confirmed.
Al Johar's decision came following Saudi Arabia's 1-0 defeat to North Korea in a World Cup qualifier in Pyongyang last Wednesday.
The Saudi Arabia FA issued a statement in which chairman Prince Sultan bin Fahad bin Abdulaziz thanked Johar for his efforts, adding the 65-year-old will remain as a technical advisor to the national team.
Johar took over from Helio Cesar dos Anjos in June last year but came under increasing pressure following the 2-0 World Cup qualifying loss to South Korea in Riyadh in October.
Saudi Arabia lie fourth in Group B of the final round of qualifying for South Africa 2010, four points behind leaders South Korea.
