EXCLUSIVE: A Jordanian international striker has arrived at Sydney Olympic - and hopes to play in this Saturday night's Johnny Warren Cup final.
Siraj Al Tall, a 26-year-old, 195cm forward has scored four goals in ten games for his country and most recently played in the World Cup against Kyrgyzstan last October.
He joined Jordanian powerhouse Al-Faisaly in 1999 as a teenager and has been at the Amman based club ever since.
Al Tall will train with the former NSL championship winning club this week. Coach Milan Blagojevic, a former Socceroo, should give the UAE-born Jordanian his first start if his clearance comes through.
Al Tall's agent Chris Tanner said he was working to get the paperwork done from the Jordanian FA as soon as possible.
“Hopefully by Friday it will come through. I think where he comes from they have many very good players. I tipped Oman to trouble the Socceroos at the Asian Cup and everyone laughed at me. Then looked what happened," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.
The west-Asian region of the AFC is strong in footballing terms, yet Aussie clubs have rarely looked to mine talent there. But if the form of the likes of strikers such as Saudi Arabia's Yasser Al Qahtani and Iraq's Younes Mahmoud is any guide, perhaps this has been an oversight.
NSW Football launches the TeleChoice NSW premier league today (Wed). Its pre-season tournament the Johnny Warren Cup concludes this Saturday with Olympic playing in the final against Sutherland Sharks at Seymour Shaw Park, Sutherland at 7.30pm.
Olympic has also signed former NSL stars Mirko Jurilj and the tricky Anthony Doumanis.
