J. League champions Kashima Antlers and Korean counterparts Jeonbuk Motors advanced to the last 16 of the Asian Champions League with two games remaining by beating Persipura Jayapura and Changchun Yatai respectively today.
Kashima maintained their 100% record in Group F with a 3-1 win over Indonesia's Persipura at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, while Lee Dong-gook scored in the second half as Jeonbuk edged out China's Changchun 1-0 at Jeonju World Cup Stadium.
Kashima, who beat whipping boys Persipura 5-0 last week, opened the scoring today after just one minute through Yasushi Endo.
Yustinus Pae gave Persipura brief hope of an upset with a 19th-minute equaliser, but Shinzo Korogi responded for Kashima seven minutes later.
Defender Atsuto Uchida sealed the win 11 minutes before the break as Kashima secured a fourth consecutive appearance in the knockout stage.
In Jeonbuk, the home side ensured the crucial head-to-head advantage over Changchun by following up last week's 2-1 win with a 1-0 triumph courtesy of Lee's fine strike.
The former Middlesbrough striker skipped past two defenders outside the area before curling home a superb effort 10 minutes after the break.
