Former Sunderland and Ipswich Town manager Keane has been holidaying in Australia this week and his attendance at the midweek Asian Champions League game between Sydney FC and Shanghai Shenhua sparked speculation linking him with the Victory job.

But Keane's manager Michael Kennedy scotched the rumours when he told The Age his client had “absolutely no intention” of taking a coaching role in Australia.

Kennedy added: ''Roy is on holiday over there and that is all there is to it.”

Victory refused to comment on the speculation linking Keane with the job, vacated after Ernie Merrick's departure last month.

A club spokesman told the Herald Sun: "We won't be commenting on speculation regarding the coaching position.

"Suffice to say, we still have a long way to go in the process of appointing a coach."
