MELBOURNE Victory defender Matthew Kemp is focused on beating rivals Heart this weekend as the team tries to wipe the memory of the shattering late loss to Brisbane Roar.
Victory looked to be home as they led 3-2 against the league leaders, only to concede at the death and see three points slip from their grasp.
"It felt like we'd lost the grand final or something," Kemp told the Herald-Sun.
"To come back and the emotion of it being my first game back - and we thought we had it in the bag and to throw it away was massive. It felt like a loss at the end.
"Hopefully we can learn from that and be a bit more disciplined and shut up shop when we're in front."
The match saw Kemp make his return following a serious knee injury and he believes he still has a little way to go before he is back to his very best.
"I've got plenty of room for improvement," Kemp said. "I just need to get a few games under my belt. But I still think there's probably another 10 per cent to go."
"It is very important," he added. "We need to pick up three points and we're throwing them away at the minute."
