MELBOURNE Victory's new signing Harry Kewell has enjoyed a big weekend after fans flocked to witness his shirt presentation at training on Saturday, before going for a spin in a V8 supercar at Phillip Island on Sunday.
Kewell was also presented with the shirt No.22 for his new club, before taking part in a 40-minute intra-squad game where he provided an assist for a goal.
The 32-year-old Socceroo told Fox Sports: "Obviously there was a lot of debate about my number. My little boy picked this one. It is a very special number.''
The number is the date of both Kewell's son and his wife's birthdays.
On Sunday, Kewell then made the journey down to Phillip Island where he took a spin in a Ford Performance Racing V8 Supercar alongside Will Davison.
The Socceroos superstar is the new face of Ford Performance Vehicles in Australia hence the experience, where he sat as Davison's passenger for a few laps.
Afterwards Kewell told BigPond Sport: "I wasn’t scared, I was actually pretty excited about it.”
Looking ahead, Victory coach Mehmet Durakovic told the Herald Sun on Saturday that Kewell was still working on his match fitness but would play some part in next Friday's warm-up clash against Adelaide United.
"Harry is doing double sessions every day in the gym and on the pitch," Durakovic said.
"He's getting to know our style of play and all is looking good for October 8. Physically he's looking No.1 and his skinfolds are the second-best at the club.
"Harry will play up in Adelaide. Don't know how much game time it will be, but we're thinking 20-25 minutes, half-an-hour. But we'll see how it goes.
“He wants to play and I'm happy for him to play. He was phenomenal today."
