Gonzalez, one of the many State League footballers vying for a spot in North Queensland Fury's inaugural squad, said he had received positive reviews from Fury coach Ian Ferguson following a number of trials with the A-League newcomers.

"I didn't receive any feedback until after a few sessions, but coach Ferguson has said he was impressed by my shot stopping abilities and skills," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper, who has been in impressive form for the under-achieving NQ Razorbacks, revealed his amazement at being called up to train with Fury and fully intends to take the chance that's been offered.

"I had hoped to get the chance to be a part of Fury in their maiden season but I had planned to do my part in aiding the razorbacks to go one step better in 2009, and this certainly has been a great surprise and honour," Gonzalez said.

Many State League players before him have tried and failed to secure contracts with A-League clubs, but Gonzalez, who once trialed with English Premier League outfit Portsmouth, believes he has the edge over any competitors.

"My strong determination and passion for the game is certainly a drive for me," he said. "Also my goalkeeping abilities and my size which gives me a intimidation factor at such a young age."

Despite having a completely opposite role to that of Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, Gonzalez acknowledged he had learnt a lot from only a few sessions beside the 34-year-old, citing a copping to the face via a ferocious Robbie Fowler shot as an example.

"As a goalkeeper after our session at Riverside I learnt the meaning of putting everything on the line, whether it be training or a match after Robbie drilled a ball straight into my face, leaving me to see the chiropractor later that day to get my neck put back in place," he said.

Whether or not Gonzalez lands a contract with Ferguson's side is unclear for now though, Gonzalez is just focused on putting in his all for both Fury and club side NQ Razorbacks.

"At the moment I'm doing all I possibly can in training and in matches to give my self the best possible chance to secure a contract with Fury," Gonzalez added.
