Heart were cruising 2-0 thanks to an early second-half brace from David Williams, but the game was turned on its head shortly after when referee Ben Williams awarded the Mariners a controversial spot-kick.

Argentine Marcos Flores converted the penalty to bring the score back to 2-1, before slotting home a second spot-kick minutes later to equalise after a handball from Patrick Gerhardt in the box.

Kisnorbo and his teammates were left dumbfounded by Williams’ first penalty decision after initially believing the referee had pointed for a foul against Heart goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne.

“It wasn’t very clear,” Kisnorbo told au.fourfourtwo.com. “The two penalty decisions are very, very questionable.”

“It killed the game. It kills everything you know. It kills the team and it kills the game.

“Especially something like that. If it’s stone-wall then you can’t do anything about it but when the referee does that.

“I actually thought, and I think 90 percent of the people thought it was a free-kick to the keeper and then that happens. I was lost for words really. Maybe you should ask the referee.”

Kisnorbo said the draw ended up feeling like a loss, but found positives from the result.

“it feels like a loss but at the end of the day it’s still a point, but we realise it should have been three,” he said.

“Some were saying that last year they (Heart) would have probably lost that game so the good thing for us is we got the point even though it feels like a loss.

“We sort of knew what they were going to do and training has been like that all week with what to do and what not to do and the shape of our team and it worked.

“It worked for pretty much the whole game until the decisions changed the game.”

Heart coach John Aloisi echoed Kisnorbo’s sentiments and was also able to take out some positives from the performance.

"Very disappointed because it was two points lost. Every time we got forward we looked dangerous and created some really good opportunities, so I thought we should’ve won," Aloisi said.

"If they’re going to be given for that they’ll be giving away three or four (penalties) a game. The second one I didn’t see Patrick Gerhardt move his hand towards the ball, I again I don’t think that’s a penalty.

"It’s disappointing because there’s two goals they’ve been given. If they created a chance then you accept it but when there’s nothing dangerous about the play.

"Defensively we’re very good. Our shape and structure is good, we’ll get better with the ball but we’re trying to use our players’ strengths."
