Kristian Rees is flying in to Wellington today to sign a short term contract with the Phoenix until the end of the season. Since being released in what was seen by many as a suprising decision by Adelaide United (especially given the torrid time they have had in replacing him), Rees has been playing in the strong Victorian Premier League for Whittlesea Zebras where he won the Best & Fairest Award despite only joining the club in Round 7. He led the team to the Grand Final where he scored. Rees has been linked with a move to Asia, but any such move could not happen until the New Year, allowing Rees to join Phoenix and strenghthen their suspect defence in the meantime. An impressive spell could see Rees sign long term and join up permanently with his former Adelaide team-mate, Ross Aloisi.
27 year old Rees has played over 100 NSL, A-League and ACL games and stands at an intimidating 6ft 4in tall.
Subject to FFA clearance, it is thought the signing will be announced by the club later today.
