The world governing body took the decision to suspend Kuwait from all international football until further notice earlier in the week due to government interference in the Kuwait FA, a contravention of FIFA rules.

Initially there were fears it could affect the country's participation in the second round of Asian qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

But it now seems their place in Asia's premier club competition is also in jeopardy after the AFC announced on their official website they will ban league champions Al Kuwait and Emir Cup holders Al Qadisya from the 2008 edition if the situation remains unchanged when the draw for the group stages is made on December 17.

The board of the Kuwait Football Association have already tendered their collective resignation over the affair, although the decision is due to be discussed at an emergency meeting of the general assembly on Sunday.

The AFC also confirmed the Competitions Committee will decide upon potential replacements if the Kuwaiti teams are kicked out.

The country's representatives in this year's competition, Al Arabi and Al Kuwait, both fell at the group stage.
