Valencia looked on course to record their third win in five league matches this season when they battled back from a goal down to lead 2-1 heading into the last minutes of their home game with Atletico.

But Los Che were unable to hold on for the victory as Maxi Rodriguez popped up right at the end to salvage a point for struggling Atletico and keep Valencia out of the top four.

Emery admits it was a bittersweet night for him, saying: "My team had a great game, we played to win, although I'm going away annoyed by the points we lost in the last minute."

The draw means Valencia only took two points from their three games against Sporting Gijon, Getafe and Atletico this week, but Emery refused to be too hard on his players.

"If we play like that we will win more than we draw. We played badly in Getafe that's true, but against Sporting and Atletico we deserved to win even though we've let four points slip away at the Mestalla.

"The only problem was that we couldn't get the third goal," he said.
