Lazio have confirmed Edy Reja has offered his resignation to the club, but they have rejected it.
Reports circulated on Wednesday suggesting Reja had offered to resign after differences with the club's director of sport, Igli Tare.
"Reja presented his resignation today at 14.00, but the club rejected it, so nothing has changed," said Stefano Di Martino, Lazio's director of communications.
"When we return to Rome, everyone will make their evaluations. We give this announcement to clarify matters for the fans."
"Reja sent a written copy of his resignation, but Lazio turned it down. The coach is here now and we'll see what happens on Friday."
Lazio are in Spain for their Europa League clash against Atletico Madrid on Thursday.
With the 66-year-old's resignation not accepted, Reja travelled with the squad and said he was committed for the tie, as Lazio attempt to turnaround a 3-1 deficit from the first-leg in Rome.
"You know about my future," Reja said. "I'm only thinking about tomorrow's match which is very important."
"I want to honour this match because we know how important it is for the team and we can find a lot of motivation to hopefully get a good result."
"You know the current aggregate score, you also know the strength of Atletico Madrid and the way that (Diego) Simeone has prepared them for the match. Tomorrow we will try to turn it around."
