Leeds United Supporters Association chairman Ray Fell has called for fans found guilty of invading the pitch at Elland Road to be banned.
Several hundred supporters spilled on to the pitch and forced a 30-minute delay at the end of Leeds' last home match of the season against Ipswich which ended in a 1-1 draw and left the Yorkshire club as good as relegated.
Fell, LUSA chief for over 20 years, branded fans who ran onto the field before referee Michael Jones had blown the final whistle "idiots" as he lamented arguably the darkest day in the club's history.
Hull's 1-0 win at Cardiff and Ipswich striker Alan Lee's 88th-minute header leaves Leeds needing to overturn a goal difference of nine at Derby on the final day to survive.
Fell told PA Sport: "I think it's as bad a day as we've known on two scores, with the sadness of relegation followed by the idiots who invaded the pitch.
"It looked to me like a pre-planned visit to the pitch and it all makes for a very sad picture.
"The only good thing about the clowns who did it was that the vast majority of fans let them know what they thought of them.
"There's no excuse for people to do these things and I hope they get the punishment they deserve.
"They should be banned from the ground and I think many will be recognised and identified from police video footage."
Fell believes Leeds are in desperate need of a huge cash injection if they are to bounce straight back into the Coca-Cola Championship.
He added: "Leeds are crying out for someone to invest heavily in the club to stop the slide and take us forward.
"We're rock-bottom. We don't own the ground or the training ground and fans are praying for someone to step forward.
"Most fans will get behind whoever the manager is. We're all in the same boat.
"We want the manager to be successful, but it's not happened so far in Dennis Wise's reign by any means.
"If we get some big investment during the summer there might be changes, but we just don't know what's going to happen."
