With the second-placed Marseille not in action until Sunday, the French giants took the chance to move five points clear on top of the table.

It was not all smooth sailing for Carlo Ancelotti's side, with second-from-bottom Nancy putting up a brave fight at Parc des Princes.

Nancy defended well in the early stages, while they also looked good on the counter-attack, with Yassine Jebbour's effort on 27 minutes turned onto the bar by PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

The visitors got the goal they deserved just nine minutes later thanks to a header from Cameroon forward Benjamin Moukandjo.

A stray ball from PSG's Javier Pastore gifted possession to Djamel Bakar and his smart pass put Moukandjo through on goal.

And although his initial effort was blocked by Sirigu, Moukandjo headed home the rebound to stun the home crowd.

Just three minutes into the second half, Swedish forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic was presented with a golden chance to level terms.

But his shot was well saved by Nancy goalkeeper Damien Gregorini as PSG stepped up the pressure.

The leveller came on 59 minutes and Ibrahimovic was the scorer, tucking home Jeremy Menez's pass with aplomb.

And the forward doubled his account three minutes later with what was eventually the winner, when he beat the charging Gregorini to a loose ball before applying the easy finish.

Nancy substitute Florent Zitte hit the post in the dying stages but the hosts held on for an important three points.

Fifth-placed Lille were also on the winners' list, toppling Valenciennes 3-1 with two goals in the last 10 minutes.

Maor Melikson opened the scoring on 24 minutes for Valenciennes before Ronny Rodelin levelled just after half-time.

A pair of substitutes – Brazilian Tulio de Melo and Benoit Pedretti – scored late goals for the winners.

Other results saw Cedric Barbosa and Saber Khelifa net doubles in Evian's 5-1 thrashing of Sochaux, while Troyes beat fellow strugglers Reims 4-2.

Ajaccio and Toulouse recorded 1-0 wins over Lorient and Brest respectively in the day's other matches.
