The Eredivisie champions had a host of chances in the first half but found Twente keeper Sander Boschker in scintillating form.

The first chance fell to Danko Lazovic who was put through on goal by Ismail Aissati but Boschker was quick to rush out and clear the danger.

Just moments later Lazovic found himself in the Twente area again and had a shot blocked by a defender, but he picked up possession again for a second effort which the keeper saved brilliantly with his feet.

Kenneth Perez was next to test Boschker's mettle as he hit a low shot from just outside the box but the keeper got down well to his right to save.

In the 39th minute Jan Kromkamp crossed for Lazovic who turned well to get a shot off but his effort went over the bar.

The striker had another chance just a minute later as Perez supplied a free-kick which he got his head onto, but he could only guide it wide.

The home side thought they had a penalty just before half-time as Kromkamp brought down Stein Huysegems on the edge of the box.

The referee initially awarded a spot-kick but after consultation with his linesman gave a free-kick which was fired weakly at the PSV wall.

Twente came into the game a little more in the second half as Youssouf Hersi hit an effort from the edge of the box, but it drifted wide.

Luke Wilkshire also had an effort for Twente which he hit from 25 yards out but his shot flew over the bar. Jason Culina watched the game from the bench.
