LUKE De Vere is looking to banish the memory of a home horror by extending Queensland Roar's unbeaten record on the road this weekend.
Frank Farina's men travel to Central Coast Mariners on Saturday looking to avenge the 4-2 defeat they suffered at Suncorp in round three.
The Mariners remain just behind Roar in fourth after a draw in Perth, but DeVere knows the Queenslanders will have to be on their game to keep it that way.
The youngster said: "They’re only one point behind us so it’s a big game this weekend. It’d be a good time to get three points and keep that away streak going.
“The first time we played them it was a strong game and a strong team.
“We didn’t play the best game when they came to Suncorp so hopefully we can turn that around and have a better performance.”
The young centre back praised a strong defensive effort which thwarted a desperate Sydney attack in the second half of the round 13 encounter to deny the hosts a valuable win.
But he said it felt a bit like two points lost after the Roar controlled the majority of the match.
He said: “We had a few good chances to kill the game off. We didn’t take those and then it cost us towards the end.
“It’s a bit disappointing to have led for most of the game and then concede that goal. We played pretty well in the first half then just dropped off a bit.
“The first half they didn’t really create too many chances then in the second half when we were under pressure we held them out.”
The match was DeVere’s second consecutive start since returning from Young Socceroos duty last month.
The 19-year-old said it had been a big month but he was enjoying his football.
“It’s good to come back now and play some games and hopefully get a few more results in the next few weeks.
“The body’s handling it all right. I’m used to a fairly big workload, coming from the AIS," he said.
