Luongo found the back of the net in QPR's 4-1 thumping of Norwich, a win that moves them 16 points clear of the relegation places and firmly solidifies their mid-table place.

QPR currently sit 15th after only one loss in their last six matches, with Luongo the star performer over Rangers' last 10 matches.

His four goals in their last seven games takes him to six for the season, also notching three assists. His star-turn for the Championship side has also firmed his grasp on a Socceroos place just before the World Cup.

Luongo failed to make an appearance at the 2014 tournament, but after a dynamic display against Colombia in Bert van Marwijk's second game in charge, he now looks favourite to start against either Hungary or Czech Republic - if not both - in the Socceroos' upcoming June's friendlies.

Luongo's problem stems from his competition in Australia's deeper-lying midfield roles. Aaron Mooy is all-but-certain to start in one of the number-six positions given his high-profile at Huddersfield, while Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak would usually assume the other.

Jedinak has been a Socceroos stalwart for the past five years and his leadership is held in high regard among the Australian camp, especially heading into a major tournament. Yet Luongo's pace and technical ability far overshadowed Jedinak's at-times shaky performance in the Colombian friendly.

There's also Jackson Irvine to consider, who has become a key figure at Hull City this season and also posseses a significant goal-threat.

Yet if Luongo continues to offer the complete-package for QPR, perhaps the time is nigh for a changing of the midfield guard. QPR manager, Ian Holloway, was full of praise for the Australian.

"It was a fantastic goal - a couple of little one-twos," he said.

"I gave Mass a rest the other day but we look fantastic when he's in there in that form. He's starting to get prolific."
