Also taking to the pitches at Madrid's Valdebebas training ground this morning were new coach Manuel Pellegrini, who replaced Juande Ramos in June after five seasons at Villarreal, as well as Ezequiel Garay and Alvaro Negredo.

Centre-back Garay was signed from Racing Santander last summer but remained on loan at the Cantabrian club, while highly-rated striker Negredo has spent the last two seasons on loan at Almeria.

However, the club's other two big summer signings to date, Kaka and Raul Albiol, along with Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos, were all absent as they are still holidaying having been on Confederations Cup duty this summer.

Madrid, who travel to Ireland on Monday for a training camp that lasts until July 22, have undergone a radical overhaul this summer following the return of Florentino Perez as president.

The club has a new board, new coaching staff and next season's first-team squad will be much changed from the side that ended the last campaign without a trophy.

The new jewel in Madrid's crown is Ronaldo, who was presented in front of more than 80,000 fans at the Bernabeu on Monday following his world-record £80million move from Manchester United.

Ronaldo is not the only big-name player to have been snapped up by Madrid this summer though, as the Spanish giants return to the 'galacticos' policy that was made famous during Perez's first tenure as president from 2000 to 2006.

Brazil superstar Kaka has also been brought in from AC Milan for a fee reportedly in the region of £56million, while France striker Benzema, who was officially presented last night at the Bernabeu, is a £30million signing from Lyon.

Madrid have also snapped up Spain centre-back Albiol from Valencia, with his fee believed to be around £13million.

In total, the Primera Division outfit's spending so far this summer is approaching the £200million mark, and there are more big-name arrivals in the pipeline.

Once Madrid complete their tour to Ireland, during which they will face Shamrock Rovers in a friendly, the team return to the Spanish capital to take part in the Peace Cup from July 26 to August 2, after which they are scheduled to head to North America for matches in Toronto and Washington DC on August 7 and 9.

Madrid have also organised a match against Borussia Dortmund on August 19, before facing AC Milan in the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy on August 25 ahead of the start of the new Primera Division season.
