The extraordinary home record of Phoenix – unbeaten in 25 home games since late 2008 at the “Cake Tin” – was finally ended last week by a rampant Brisbane Roar 4-1.

It makes for a difficult assignment for the visitors who are sitting nicely in third spot and on the back of a good victory in Townsville last Friday.

Bojic, 26, added that the Wellington stadium remains one of the most difficult to play,  citing local weather as a major factor.

“Wellington’s a very tricky place. I’ve been going there for a number of years and it’s just I think it’s the wind and the way it circulates through the ground,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

“You don’t know which way the ball’s going to go with the wind.”

Following an injury to Bojic in the Mariners’ 5-0 thrashing of Perth at the SFS two weeks ago, central defender Alex Wilkinson has found himself in the unfamiliar position of right back.

But with Bojic’s impending return for Saturday night's clash, Wilkinson is welcoming a likely shift back to his more familiar role.

“Wellington are a tough team to break down,” Bojic added. “They’ve lost now their unbeaten home record so it’ll be tougher for them knowing that.

“But we’re very confident, we’re playing some great football and going there in the right frame of mind.”

The former Northampton Town defender added that the new-look Mariners were starting to gel after an influx of players under new coach Graham Arnold.

“We feel organised on the field and starting to understand each other. It’s a new team and it’s just going to get better as we get to know each other better,” said Bojic

Young Socceroo playmaker Mustafa Amini has been named in the squad and Bojic is pleased to see youngsters like Amini start to develop.

Amini, 17, has played in the last two games and has been a timely replacement for Argentine playmaker Patricio Perez.

“He’s a great footballer and it’s good to see young players getting a go – the same as Matty Lewis and Matty Ryan. There’s a bright future for the kid,” said Bojic.

The Mariners have to go back more than three years to their first ever visit to the New Zealand capital for their one and only victory over Phoenix at Westpac stadium - aka "The Cake Tin".

It’s the first of eight games in 35 days for the Gosford-based club who head to Melbourne after their trip across the Tasman.
