CENTRAL Coast Mariners defeated Canberra-based ACT Rockets 4-0 at the Deakin Football Centre on Friday night.
Goals in the first half from triallists Predrag Bojic and Frank Lagana and another from Sasho Petrovski was added to in the second by Matthew Osman, as the Mariners comfortably dispatched the best the ACT Premier League had to offer.
The Mariners’ premium performance closed out a rigorous four-day sojourn to the nation’s capital, which has featured training sessions daily, including on match days, in addition to a series of community visits about the ACT.
The Mariners started the match with three triallists, plus Canberran starlets Taylor Beaton – the two-goal hero of two-days earlier at the Belonnen Soccer Centre, and Alex Connell on the substitutes bench.
"The first half performance especially was outstanding, although we had quite a few traillists out there, some of the movement and the goals were outstanding," said Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna.
"The second half they made a few changes and put us under pressure, but we got through that and Matthew Osman scored a great individual goal.
"Overall, I’m very happy with that performance, the other night I wasn’t happy at all but the boys responded and showed what they can do."
