The Roar midfielder recently agreed a new contract at Suncorp Stadium, along with fellow engine room supremo Massimo Murdocca.

That means the pair will be off limits when clubs begin their recruitment drives on October 1 and McKay is more than happy with that situation.

McKay, who has been with Roar since day one of the A-League, told au.fourfourtwo.com: “Frank Farina signing a new deal was important and then you also look around and see the other players the club is re-signing and also bringing in.

“I have unfinished business here. I’ve been here three and a half years and I want to win something.”

McKay’s content means he won’t be one of those looking to link up with former boss Miron Bleiberg at Gold Coast United.

However, McKay cannot wait for the club to enter the A-League and believes their admission will actually help both teams.

He said: “I wish they were in this year to be honest. I can’t wait. It will be fantastic to have a Queensland derby.

“I think it will help both sides to be honest. Look at the way Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets have developed a rivalry and the way they push each other to do well. They’ve both had success in the A-League.

“In another sport I think there’s good Queensland rivalry between the Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans (League) and with the Cowboys (Townsville).”

In the meantime though McKay will make do with having made life miserable for Perth Glory, his goal on Sunday the second time he has netted at Members Equity Stadium in successive seasons.

He said: “We always seem to do well there.”
