EXCLUSIVE: St Johnstone’s on-loan Australian striker Daniel McBreen is on a plane from Scotland bound for Aurelio Vidmar's Adelaide United.
With Bruce Djite set to exit Hindmarsh stadium, the 31-year-old former Newcastle United NSL player is being lined up as a potential back up striker.
McBreen, a burly targetman, has been released by the Scottish first division side just weeks after scoring against Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish FA Cup semi final.
McBreen left Australia six years ago. He’s been on the books of Scunthorpe United, Universitario Craiova in Romania and Falkirk in Scotland, where he scored 19 goals in 55 appearances.
He joined St Johnstone on loan last January from Scunthorpe.
In other news, former Australian U/17s captain and Victory man Mark Byrnes has signed for Apia Leichhardt in the NSW premier league.
Byrnes, who captained Australia to a World Cup final finish at the 1999 Youth World Cup in New Zealand, intends to play in NSW till the end of the season before pursuing overseas options.
