NORTH Queensland Fury coach Ian Ferguson has added UK-based Australian striker Daniel McBreen to his list of attacking options for the club's debut season.
The 31-year old has been playing for York City in the English Football Conference over the past two seasons with a stint at Scottish Division One team St Johnstone as a loan player.
Prior to that McBreen impressed in the Scottish Premier League with Falkirk where he found the net at a rate of better than one goal every three matches.
"He played a few seasons at Falkirk and St Johnstone and really made a name for himself as a player who could score goals," Ferguson said.
"He gives us yet another attacking option - he's over six foot, so that provides a big, physical target for us up front on the set plays.
"Daniel brings the height that I was missing and he's an aggressive player who's been playing in some tough competitions and that's what I want in the team - a player who will give centre halves a hard time."
McBreen started his career in the NSL with the Newcastle Jets and Adelaide City before his appearances earned him an overseas move to Romanian club Universitea Craiova where he spent two successful years.
His displays in Romania caught the eye of Scottish club, Falkirk, where he established himself as a dangerous customer in both League One and the Scottish Premier League.
McBreen moved south of the border to English club Scunthorpe United in 2006, from where he was loaned to York City for a brief spell in 2007.
"One of the great things about Daniel is that he's an Australian boy who's played in the UK for a few seasons and he can bring that experience back to the A-League," Ferguson said.
"We're a lot closer to finishing up the roster but everyone knows they'll really have to fight for their spot."
