McDonald’s Kanga Cup kicks off 2007 registration drive with sponsorship announcement
Capital Football organisers were today joined by Matilda star Sally Shipard to announce that McDonald’s had renewed its sponsorship of the Kanga Cup for $200,000 and to kick off the registration drive for the 2007 tournament.
Steven McIntyre, Kanga Cup Event Manager, said, "We are pleased and proud that McDonald’s has re-signed as the naming rights sponsor of Kanga Cup, particularly as this is the most significant investment we’ve received since the competition began in 1991.
"We expect more than 12,000 young football players to participate in the tournament over the next four years and with McDonald’s assistance, we will continue to host a world-class tournament in Canberra each year."
The sponsorship of the Kanga Cup is worth $50,000 per year from 2007 to 2010.
Con Kourpanidis, local McDonald’s owner/operator and spokesperson for McDonald’s licensees in the ACT region said he is proud to continue supporting Kanga Cup.
"Giving back to the community is part of McDonald’s ethos," said Con. "With more than 180 local, interstate and international teams visiting Canberra to take part in this annual event, we felt it was important to continue our sponsorship of this tournament."
Sally Shipard from the Matildas attended the launch to encourage football organisations to sign-up for this year’s McDonald’s Kanga Cup, in the hope of making it the most successful competition ever.
"The McDonald’s Kanga Cup is the biggest tournament of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and is a wonderful opportunity for football clubs to motivate their junior players to train hard in the pursuit of a common goal," said Sally.
"With teams coming from all over Australia and even overseas, it’s also a chance for young players to build lasting friendships with other football fans and have lots of fun. I’d encourage any team that’s eligible to register now," she added.
McDonald’s Kanga Cup is held from 8 July to 13 July at venues throughout the ACT. The tournament caters for males and females aged from 10 to 18 years and is open to club, school, association or community based teams that are part of the Football Federation Australia family. Teams interested in participating can register from now until 18 May by filling in a nomination form. To register go to www.kangacup.com
