Matt McKay is desperate to play on next season, but acknowledges that with no new contract on offer it may be time to say goodbye.
The Brisbane Roar captain has racked up almost 250 A-League appearances over two spells in the Queensland capital, winning the 2010/11 and 2013/14 Premiership and Championship doubles.
It's a sterling record, in addition to his 59 caps for the Socceroos, but it hasn't been enough to secure a new contract at the Roar next season. The 35-year-old is one of many ageing Brisbane players under consideration for a squad refresh this season.
“I feel like I can contribute again and I’d love to play on here,” McKay told Foxsports.
“I’ve definitely thought about this weekend and what it might mean. Being against Perth too, it’d be a like almost a closure because I made my national league debut against them.
“That was in the days when the Glory were NSL powerhouses and there was a great atmosphere there."
Before casting his mind to an uncertain future, McKay is focused on "giving everything" to give Brisbane a chance of finals football with a win over Perth Glory.
“We’ve forgotten about last week and we’re going to give everything against the Glory," McKay said.
“We’ve got a proud history of playing in the finals and we don’t want that to end this season."
