EXCLUSIVE: Lawrie McKinna has yet to enjoy his first taste of action in the Asian Champions League and yet he's already demanding a second helping.
The Mariners and Newcastle Jets will be Australia's representatives in the 2009 ACL with the draw taking place tomorrow.
McKinna says he has no preferences in terms of the opposition the Mariners are paired with. All he does know is that he wants to kick off in March knowing the Mariners will be back for more 12 months later.
He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "One of the boys at the club has been trying to work out what would be the best draw for us but we get what we get in the end. We know there are no easy games.
"I'm just delighted we're in there and everyone's looking forward to it. We want to get out there and do well."
The Mariners earned their ACL spot by winning the Premiership last season and McKinna wants to make sure next year's Asian adventure is no one-off.
He said: "We want to be kicking off the 2009 ACL knowing that we'll be there again in 2010.
"It's about building momentum and I think you can see how building momentum has really worked well for Adelaide United.
"The games have kept coming for them, in the ACL and the A-League and they've responded really well. Again, momentum."
As for domestic matters, McKinna expects another very, very tight finish. He said: "It was all decided on the final day (of the regular season) last year and I think it will be the same again this time."
