Supporters of Melbourne Victory’s proposed Academy and Community facility - which will support the booming women’s game in the West - say a campaign of lies is trying to derail the proposal.
HEAR WHAT OPPONENTS OF VICTORY'S PROPOSAL ALLEGE:
"Football, it's the most played sport amongst females. Females in the West have no elite pathways, investment or opportunity to go further in the sport," one backer tells FTBL.
"This facility will have a 40% female participation rate and drive more females to play the sport. It is also an investment in our youth. It's more than just women.
"We’ve had a lot of objections, it’s been a well-organised campaign against this proposal with big financial backing.
"They’ve abused supporters on the street, made some racist comments, they don’t allow any information from Melbourne Victory on their pages and delete any support.
"They’ve engaged in a campaign of misinformation."
Socceroo and Victory star Thomas Deng adds the facility 'will provide pathways and programs for kids from all backgrounds who may not otherwise get the opportunity.
'Let’s use the power of football to unite all walks of life,' he implores.
