Fringe Socceroo left-back James Meredith has avoided serious injury after being forced off in Bradford City’s League One game on the weekend.
Meredith limped off in the 48th minute of Bradford’s 1-0 loss at Oxford United on Saturday after sustaining a right ankle injury.
The 28-year-old Albury-born defender jarred his ankle in the first half and tried to play on, only lasting a few minutes in the second half.
The two-time Socceroo was understood to be devastated after the game but Bradford boss Stuart McCall said he has recovered well and could play this week.
"He is probably touch and go at the moment,” McCall said ahead of Bradford’s league clash with Southend on Wednesday morning (AEDT).
"He has improved very well and he is desperate to play.

"We will certainly give him every opportunity.
“He is definitely better now physically and mentally than he was straight after the game.”
Meredith hasn’t played for Australia since November’s 4-0 win in Bangladesh and is currently behind Brad Smith and Alex Gersbach.
Aziz Behich and Jason Davidson have also been used at left-back in the past two years by Australia coach Ange Postecoglou.
