Sydney FC star Adrian Mierzejewski says he's achieved practically everything he can in world football, except an elusive World Cup appearance.
The Sky Blues midfielder has been the A-League's best player this season, 12 goals in 18 appearances overshadowing last campaign's star imports Milos Ninkovic and Diego Castro, to make the Pole a shoe-in for the Johnny Warren medal.
It would be an achievement he could add to a CV including 40 appearances for the Polish national team, inclusion in the Polish squad at the European Championships, and Champions League and Europa League appearances while playing in Poland and Turkey.
There is one achievement, however, that's eluded the 31-year-old.
"This World Cup would be perfect," Mierzejewski admitted to a-league.com.au.
"I still dream about it. Maybe I will get a chance, but realistically, I am 31 now and I know maybe it will not come.
"I am happy with my CV – I played in the Champions League, Europa League and European Championships.
"Not everything depends on me."
Mierzejewski rose to fame through the Polish Ekstraklasa, leading clubs Wisla Plock and Polonia Warsaw to European competition, before becoming the most expensive signing from the Polish first division, upon transferring to Turkish club Trabzonspor.
It was during this time that the Sydney midfielder became a regular for the Polish national side, however big-money moves to Arabia scupped his place in the national side, and he hasn't picked since.
He's hoping his form in Australia may lead to an unlikely call up, but he understands this may be a pipe dream.
"It's an amazing feeling (playing for Poland). I played with the best players from Poland, like Robert Lewandowski, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Lukasz Piszczek, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Wojciech Szczesny," Mierzejewski said.
"Unfortunately, when I played, we didn't play really good football.
"Now the team is improving and I hope I can join it."
