UEFA have charged Lithuania's Saulius Mikoliunas with misconduct after reviewing video evidence of the penalty he won against Scotland.
The Hearts midfielder dived inside the Scotland penalty area to earn Lithuania the penalty from which they equalised in Saturday's Euro 2008 Group B qualifier.
He could now face a two-match ban from playing for his country if found guilty of deliberately conning referee Damir Skomina.
Scotland went on to win the match 3-1 but Mikoliunas' actions were widely criticised after the final whistle, with goalkeeper Craig Gordon saying: "I would love to have a few words with him if I could find him."
UEFA's disciplinary inspector decided the act of simulation warranted an official charge being levelled at the 23-year-old, who refused to apologise to the Scottish public after the game.
UEFA's control and disciplinary committee will examine the case next Wednesday.
They have the power to enforce a two-game suspension on any player found guilty of "acting with the obvious intent to cause any match official to make an incorrect decision or supporting his error of judgement and thereby causing him to make an incorrect decision".
