Super-sub Minniecon, 19, made the breakthrough late in the second half with a scorching run through the heart of the Victory defence before a diagonal run and low shot gave the Queenslanders the lead.

A buoyant Minniecon arrived back at Brisbane airport this morning and told au.fourfourtwo.com that his natural instinct is take on defenders.

"Actually I can't remember much of it now you mention it but my plan once I got the ball was always to get through and make it a one-on-one with the keeper. Fortunately it did happen."

The Cairns-born flyer's effort was matched by fellow Roar young gun Michael Zullo's pacy incursion into the Victory defence right on the whistle to condemn the ten-man home side to its first loss of the season.

He joked: "I feel I've definitely developed a lot this season particularly with Charlie Miller in the side. He's always helping us young players. I don't always understand him though. But my confidence has grown since last year and also the ability to run at players."

The 32-year-old Miller's influence on and off the park has reaped benefits for the Roar. Four goals and plenty of guile just behind the frontline has pepped up what was looking a pop-gun attack at the start of the year.

Minniecon said: "I'm definitely in awe of him. At training you can see it. His ability is amazing." Minniecon's goal for the season is the same as last year – to nail a regular spot.

But with Miller, Sergio Van Dijk and Reinaldo regular starters in the Roar frontline, an impact role appears to be his for the moment. And it doesn't help that Minniecon will miss a number of games as his burgeoning career takes him away on international duty.He leaves Australia on Wednesday bound for Thailand.

There, the Young Socceroos will play some preparatory games ahead of the AFC U/19 tournament in Saudi Arabia in November. It means the electrifying youngster will be away for around four weeks over the next few months.

But playing against top class Asian opposition can only benefit the Socceroos in the future and this unique A-League talent. He said: "It'll be difficult to keep my foot in the team when I'm away but it's for a good cause."
